Frequently Asked Questions - Prescription Lenses for Sports Sunglasses
Welcome to our prescription lens FAQ section, where we share our insights into selecting the perfect prescription lenses for your sports sunglasses. Over time, we've fine-tuned our offerings and gathered valuable tips to assist you in making the right choice.
1. Why Prescription Lenses for Sports Sunglasses?
Our journey into developing prescription lenses for our frames began after participating in numerous exhibitions, especially when cyclists expressed their desire for prescription options. These athletes sought a lens with a wrap design, as traditional clip-in lenses were uncomfortable, heavy, restricted peripheral vision, and fogged up easily. We heard the demand and created the ideal frame, suitable for various sports, not limited to cycling. The following guidance will aid you in selecting the optimal combination.
2. Polarized Lenses vs. Mirror Finish:
While polarized lenses are often perceived as the best, they may not be ideal for all sports, except for fishing. Polarized lenses reduce glare but can hinder visibility of digital devices and obscure ice or water on road surfaces, making them less suitable for skiing or cycling. An excellent alternative is a mirror finish, which effectively combats glare and bright sunlight, offering a preferable combination.
3. Tint Options:
We recommend two basic tint types: grey and brown/amber. Grey tints provide accurate vision and are perfect for road running or cycling on the roads. On the other hand, brown/amber tints enhance depth of field and contrast, making them ideal for trails, walking, and ball sports like golf and tennis. Additionally, a yellow tint is suitable for low-light conditions.
4. Transitions Lenses:
Transitions, known as photochromic lenses, are a great choice for varying light conditions. We offer two options: Xtractive Transitions, which transition from clear to grey, and Drivewear, which shift from light amber to a darker amber/grey. Drivewear lenses are particularly favored for golf and driving.
5. Single Vision vs. Varifocals:
We provide both single vision and varifocal lenses. It's important to note that varifocals are pricier. If you don't require a reading addition, single vision lenses are a cost-effective choice. For sports, we've set the reading portion at its lowest point for safety, with the addition part solely for tasks like reading your Garmin or a menu at a coffee shop.
6. Clear Lenses:
Clear lenses offer a non-slip and stable alternative for sports activities, ensuring your glasses stay securely in place.
7. Mirror-Enhanced Clear Lenses:
Our latest innovation combines a clear frame with a slight tint and mirror coating, providing the perfect compromise for sports enthusiasts in the UK. Please note that this option may not be ideal for areas with intense sunshine like Spain.
8. Lens Thickness:
Lens thickness becomes a consideration for prescriptions above +3 and -4. In such cases, our optical rim, though not as sleek as wrap lenses, offers a lighter and equally protective solution that stays in place without slipping.
9. New Africa Frame:
We're excited to announce our upcoming Africa Frame, designed with prescription compatibility in mind. We're continually pushing boundaries to provide you with innovative options.
